problem

comet came to us with a tight deadline and a very specific problem. their white-on-white sneaker visuals weren’t working. the outlines were melting into the backdrop, the product had no definition, and no amount of retouching was fixing it. they needed a team that could step in fast, understand the issue at a technical level and rebuild the visual clarity of their white sneakers from scratch.

solution

the shift was immediate. comet finally had visuals where the product didn’t disappear. clean contours. clear separation. whites that looked premium instead of flat. they continue to use these assets today, and the workflow we created for them has shaped our approach to high-precision product imaging.

we began by slowing the pace for a moment, even though the project was urgent. white sneakers are notoriously hard to shoot, and the issues comet faced weren’t random. too much light washed out the silhouette. too little created muddy shadows. their existing assets sat in the middle, where the shoe and background blended into each other with no separation.

to fix this, we broke the challenge down into layers. we studied their current images to understand exactly where the breakdown was happening. edges were softening. textures weren’t reading. highlights were blowing out. that gave us a clear list of technical weak points.

then we built context. we sourced white sneakers from global leaders like adidas, nike, veja and new balance. not to imitate their style, but to decode their consistency. how they keep whites crisp. how they preserve shape. how they use micro-shadows to hold the form without dirtying the frame. these insights became our baseline.

only then did we move into production. we ran a dedicated photoshoot engineered for white materials. controlled lighting. layered diffusion to soften hotspots. flags to carve definition without harshness. we tested frame after frame until the shoe held its silhouette even before editing. post-production was deliberate and manual. every edge refined, every tone calibrated, every highlight balanced.

it started as a fire-fight project, but quickly turned into a complete rebuild of their imaging system.
